THERAPY

I believe it is important to emphasize a person's strengths, rather than over focusing on problems.

I believe it is important to emphasize a person's strengths, rather than over-focusing on problems. I understand that  relationships between people are of central importance to the well-being of all family members. I teach strategies, new ways of thinking and behaving, that reduce distress and add to our happiness and success in life. While children, teens and young adults are my primary clients, I work collaboratively with parents, and, when helpful, with school systems.

A therapy session is 50 minutes. How often we meet and who participates in therapy is flexible, and often changes over time. I will recommend a schedule based on your needs. Presence of a parent in sessions is often, but not always, helpful. I am open to creating a plan that best creates real change for your family.

Within each session, shared enjoyment, increased communication, and strengthened relationship are a focus.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) involves learning new ways of thinking and behaving, which allow a person to better control their own emotional reactions and thought processes. You will learn new skills.

Social Skills
Instruction

Social Skills Instruction reduces social anxiety and addresses specific areas of need in anxiety and Autism Spectrum Disorder, including reading nonverbal cues, understanding social rules, engaging with peers, social thinking, and solving friendship problems.

Behavior Consultation

Behavior Consultation involves understanding what is communicated through behavior, strengthening the parent-child relationship, and trying new ways to react to problems.
